Bathroom Fitting

Advice on Finishing a Bathroom - After Fitter Left

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.17 PM

Hi Hoping to get some advice and possibly for someone to help us out in our hour of need. We have paid over £3,600 for a bathroom refit (just plumber's fee - all suite, tiles and shower etc purchased separately by us) which was to include all plumbing etc etc. We were then presented with another bill for nearly £400 to pay for "all the plumbing bits". We have it written down that all plumbing was to be included! We have refused to pay for the bits as we have already paid for these - and he has now just walked off without finishing - saying pay it or I'm not coming back. We have a working toilet and a bath. However, still left is to finish putting shower controls on, fit handheld wand shower, finish silicone. Remove towel radiator and fit chrome finishing bits and then sort the waste outside for the basin (to go in to soil pipe) and fix guttering he has cut! He also installed a faulty tap, which now means the wall hung unit needs to be removed to get the faulty tap off and replaced. He also has just used normal plaster board behind the tiles in the whole of bathroom including shower (apart from tiler backer board on small section where shower valve is in the shower (wall of 2.4mx0.8, only did because I queried this - and he charged me an extra £109). Look forward to people's advice and comments. Many thanks

Hi Sorry to hear about your problems with your plumber, if the plumber has stated in his quotation that all materials are included in the £3,600, then I wouldn't pay him any more money, hopefully you haven't paid him the £3,600 payment for the works. Just ring and write to the plumber informing him you no longer require his services, and find yourself a new bathroom fitter from this site. We do not take any payments of clients until the job has been completed and both parties are happy, ANY good tradesman who are competent and able to complete the works don't take payments before they complete the works UNLESS it is a very high value job that needs a payment plan Regards Trevor

Hi iam so sorry to hear about your problems I personally think your right not to pay this man he is charging a premium price so you should be getting a premium job with all included , understandably there can be extras but these should be discussed with you and agreed by you ,hopefully you haven't paid upfront and can withhold some money. I don't know where you are but if theres anything I can do to help please don't hesitate to ask Regards Adam
