Buckling/raised tiles around linear drain in wetroom

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.17 PM

I've just had a wetroom completed, and started to use the shower. After a few days, a few of tiles around the linear drain started to buckle and rise up a bit (they originally were flush with the top of the linear drain) There are also some hairline cracks around the linear drain and within the shower tray area. The wood tray former, tanking system and drain are from here: http://www.onthelevel.co.uk/linear-grating-wet-rooms/ One guy looking at the situation says, there was not enough space between the linear drain and tiles for expansion around it, as it was tiled right up to the edge, and it should have silicone used instead of grouting around the edges for expansion. But the manufacturer instructions (from here http://www.onthelevel.co.uk//wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Instructions-For-Linear-Drainage-System.pdf ) say it should be grouted... One of the issues is that if the tiles are taken up, it might destroy the wooden former, and that would complicate things further. Any suggestions for the work to rectify this? Can I use mapesil AC to cover the grouting with the hairline cracks? as I suspect the wooden former has some movement, hence causing the cracks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Have never used these formers ,but I do feel that you have had water ingress, this could be caused by a number of things, the only solution is to remove the tiles to find the problem, covering it with Mapesil sealant will not fix the problem,Who tiled it if it was a pro get them back, also if there is movement in the wood former then it is not fit for purpose.
