you still dig up close would be wise to put clay bar up against it to react as an expansion ,

The best way to get over any problem of possible undermining, is to dig the strip foundation in sections, dig a front pad to return into your front foundation strip and return it a meter, leave a section of the foundation undug then dig the back pad out 600mm by 1000mm by a meter deep. Then lay your block foundations and connect the two foundations with two 150mm by 100mm prestressed concrete lintels, this way you are not in anyway undermining your neighbours footings. Or you can dig front and back pads and install reed bar in the foundations before concrete, then once concrete is poured leave for 24 hours and dig middle section out and concrete. Hi iff you are planning an extention you will have an architect. your architect will do the drawings and advise on party wall agreement which will be signed.
You can then dig your foundations as per drawings and building control approval.Hope this helps.
