Plumbing

Considering moving a radiator from under a window to an adjacent wall near the door

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.00 PM

I have no experience at all with plumbing, and if I can get permission from my landlord to get this job done at my expense, then I'll be looking to hire a professional plumber. However, right now I just need an idea of what work would be done. Basically in my bedroom, which is tiny, there is a radiator under the window. I want to move my bed right up against that wall to maximise floorspace. But the radiator is in the way and I don't want it right next to my bed because the heat would damage the wood, I would get too warm at night during the winter, and moving the radiator to an adjacent wall would actually create more space to put the bed where I want to put it (space is that limited). I live in a first floor flat with a loft. The pipework comes down through the ceiling, in a corner of my room and it connects to the bottom part of the radiator. That leads me to believe that there will not be any need to reposition or adjust the vertical part of the pipe, but the horizontal part of the pipe runs a short distance along the skirting into the radiator. It looks like it's only this part of the pipework that would need adjustment to go where the radiator would be relocated (really a very short distance, it's literally just repositioning the radiator to an adjacent wall next to the door). Any advice? I need an idea of what would be involved, so that I can "pitch" the idea to my landlord to get their permission before I make any commitment.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, would obviously need to look at the job but sounds really straight forward. Just run the pipes along the skirting to the new position and reconnect the original radiator. If you need anything don't hesitate to contact me. Lewis, Corstorphine Gas Services
