urgent advice needed on upvc patio doors
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.41 PM
Hi I live in a flat which is first floor (only ground first and second) and has open space around it on a slight hill. I know you may he asking why all this information but I get a lot of draft through one of my patio doors which the builders say to expect and I don't agree. It is a new build and they have been adjusted to within an inch of their lives. Is what I'm being told true or duff info Help would be appreciated Thanks Cat They do open inwards I don't know the rest.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Are the doors open inwards ? is there a low aluminium threshold ? both these are contributary factors. Are they externally glazed? I am sure that they have not been set up correctly.

Could be as already said set up wrong or could be just old fashioned poor quality and poor fitting.

Hi cat
You should not have any drafts coming through the doors, you have paid good money to have these in your home. I am asuming that as your home is new it should come with the guarantees. If you have no joy I would take this futher as they are not fit for purpose. Would you drive your car with wind coming through the windows (NO).
You could always get an independent survey, we wish you luck with this.

Hi cat, you said adjusted within an inch of their life which tells me you have had them back atleast once for remedial work. You can check them yourelf with as spirit level to make sure the doors are in winde ie level on the sides and bottom. Most fitters want a tight fitting door or window so he can have a small silicone line which makes a nice job, however if the aperture ie brickwork isnt straight then you have no room to sit the door in winde as the brickwork wont allow it.
If that is the case im sorry but their is more remedial work to come.
Adjusting the doors on the hinges will not solve the problem if the glass is not correctly toed and heeled in the doors either. A good fitter can toe and heel the doors for you at a reasonable price as it doesnt take long at all.
Also french doors normally open outwards.

They should be able to be adjusted on the hinges ok, if they are of good quality and the doors have been manufactured to tollerances.
Basically your builders are telling you porkies
