Damp Proofing

Line of damp 1.5m up the wall

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

We purchased our house in March in the knowledge that it had a damp problem on the external walls due to the original DPC being breached.I knocked off the plaster on the affected walls to a height of approx 1.5m to reveal bare brick, the plasterer painted a waterproof coating on the bare brick and then skimmed all the walls , leaving approx 6inches or so at the bottom.I let it dry for two weeks (this was in the summer) then painted on a mist coat then emulsioned. All good. We went away on holiday for two weeks at the end of October and arrived back to find that the two external walls in one of the previously affected rooms was damp from about 1.5m (coincidently the height I knocked the plaster off to) the walls for about a foot in one corner stretchingto about half way along the wall. We didnt have a radiator in the room so bought an electric heater and it seemed to dry out. Its now end of November and its been back for two weeks. There is a radiator in there now but its not drying out.Help.

could be a lot of different reasons ,without looking at the issue it is impossible to say exactly what is causing the issue , but it is not likely to be rising damp more like penetrating, this could be caused by many different things, pipe, gutting, roof, pointing, chimney, ect ,ect , depends what type of house it is if its cavity walled or not. would be looking for a external reason. good luck Alex
