Torn Breathable membrane

last year i got a company to install all singing all dancing solar panels (yea right) trouble is this year i went into the loft to get my usual christmas tree i noticed daylight ,on having a closer look there are several tears in the breathable membrane where they have removed tiles to fix the brackets for the panels tried to contact the they have left the planet. is there a way i can repair the tears from the inside (there is no leaks as yet) Please Help Ian Rose

Hi Ian, I am sorry to say the only way to effectively make this repair is to open the roof from the outside, lift the battens and replace the felt. A repair from the inside will not be effective at all as each run of felt must lap over the piece below. This unfortunately means the solar panels will have to be removed and this could effect any warranty you have. You could decide to leave the felt or tidy it up from the inside as long as the tiles or slates remain intact there will be no water ingress. Good Luck.

If there are straight tears in the underlay you could possibly repair them with a sealing tape especially designed to work with breathable membranes.
