how much unsupported overhang can a wooden worktop have?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.00 PM

I want to replace my laminate worktop with a wooden worktop. It is about 1800mm X 600mm. Is it possible to put a 1800mm X 960mm X 40mm wooden worktop on this, with the extra bits being an overhang without support, so I can have some bar stools on one side. One side of the worktop is against the wall, so it could possibly have a bracket under it, but I do not want a stand on the opposite side. Regards Jon

Hi this should be fine as you are using 40 mm worktops, ensure when the worktops are fitted they are fixed correctly and as you say a few brackets would be good. Hope this helps

Hi there, follow the above advise, I would fix brackets inside the base cupboards to the underside of existing worktops and fix into side panels only, using screws that a large enough to not go through the other side to give as much strength as possible. When new worktops are fitted use 25-30mm screws. Ian
