Turning off flow to toilet cistern

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

I need to change the diaphragm washer on a toilet float valve, but the inlet pipe does not have a tap to cut off the water. If I turn off the main, and empty the roof tank by running taps, are there going to be problems with sediment stirred up in the roof tank when I restore the supply? Is there another way to do this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi,if the cistern is tank fed you can plug the tank feed with rubber cones (can be purchased in most plumbers merchants ) saving you a drain down and stirring up any debris from bottom of tank in loft.If it is mains fed all you do is turn of mains stopcock and that isolates water.
