Install ducting and a cooker hood
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.53 PM
Hi, I am looking for replacing my existing recirculating cooker hood, and installing a new ducted cooker hood to my detached house. There is no existing ducting in place, and we need to install the ducting through an external cavity wall. Is that easy and safe to install the ducting through this kind of wall? The external wall is facing my neighborhood's wall (but not directly to their windows or doors). Do we need any permission from council for the hole and the pipe? (I am in the Durham area) Thank you for your advice.

You will need a core drill and a diamond core bit suitable for the size of duct you will be using (see the specifications of the cooker hood to determine the correct size). Drill a pilot first to guide the core drill, then drill from the outside in. Once through, you will need a cooker hood kit. These usually comprise of a hose, external shutter louvre and clips. As far as I am aware, you don't need to advise building control, but I would run it by your neighbours as a matter of courtesy!
