Tanking my shower

Hi am installing a shower , I am using a tanking kit before tiling my question is do I use the butyl tape under the shower or around the top edge of the try Looked at some videos and it has con fused me a bit

If you are referring to a wet room, you need to put the tape half on the base and half up the wall across the edge, and paint over with the waterproofing paint.
