New floor, new skirting, any excuse for gaps?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.53 PM

Have just had new floor fitted. Old carpets ripped up, floor levelled with ply, new boards and skirting laid. Before we call the fitter back in, any excuse for gaps showing between floor and skirting? Doesn't look right to me.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, there should be a 10mm expansion gap between your new flooring and all walls. Assuming that proper skirting board has been used, the gap would not be visible as the depth of skirting would be greater than the 10mm expansion gap.

sounds like the subfloor is uneven, a good fitter will scribe skirtings to the shape of the subfloor. if there are gaps showing then a translucent sealant would do at a pinch.
