Will whole wall need replastering if I want skirting boards replaced with smaller ones?

I hate the huge skirting boards in my hallway/dining room/kitchen. I would like them replaced with smaller ones to match the rest of the house. If they are removed will the whole wall need replastering before we can have new ones fitted?

Totally agree with other comment just patch it up and sand it down ,no need to re-plaster whole wall

Not the whole wall, but depending on the age of the property you may need to use bonding where the skirting boards had been, as sometimes they leave a void which needs filling and a light skin of plaster to blend in just above the skirting line.
