Ask a questionKitchen Fitting
Clearance above Neff induction hob
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.17 PM
Hello, I'm in the middle of a particularly stressful kitchen fitting process. A splash back provider today pointed out that the two cupboards either side of the extractor unit are overhanging the hob. They are 495 above the hob and overhang by about 20cm so are half over the back hobs. Is there a minimum clearance height/overhang? I can't see anything on the Neff website. Thanks in advance for any advice.

you should have a minimum clearance of 50mm either side your hob for wall units .the extractor should be about 650 mm above hob for electric and 750 for gas

Morning,
In terms of kitchen layout, the cupboards in an ideal situation shouldn't protrude over the hob for a number of reasons, so the splash back provider is correct. In terms of asthetics as well its a big NO as it makes the hob/extractor fan look like they have been squeezed in with no thought to the look and feel of the installation. The extractor fan should sit a minimum of 75 cm above the top of the hob, although most are fitted slightly higher as for anyone over about 5'8 its difficult to see the back of the hob.
I've been installing for a number of years and prior to that I was a kitchen designer for a huge company, it certainly doesn't sound like a good set up. The easiest thing would be to raise the extractor fan to above 75cm and reduce the width of the wall cupboards either side.
All the best
