Removal of granite upstand
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.59 PM
I need to employ a trades person to remove a four inch granite upstand from above a granite worktop, which is to remain. Then to replace the upstand with one or two courses of subway tiles and a cooker splash back. Has anyone any experience of removing granite from a wall? It is stuck on with a type of mastic. Thank you so much for the very helpful answer received. Shame the tradesman lives so far away! I am still desperate to find anyone with experience or knowledge of this type of job or tell me if the job falls under a different trade. Thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

granite upstands are 99.9 % of the time stuck on with mastic , the best way to remove is with a sharp painters scraper the tipe you may use for filling walls ect , start at one end if possible by tapping the scraper with a hammer between the wall and the granite this will loosen the mastic and you should then be able to pull the granite away while prying with the scraper
