Gas Works

running a gas pipe from the boiler to a gas fire

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

When I had laminate installed over a solid floor a hole was drilled through the copper gas pipe underneath - this was repaired but when the gas fire was reconnected the pressure was not correct. It has been suggested that rather than pull up the new floor to locate the 'leak' which apparently could be anywhere a new gas pipe could be run from the boiler in the kitchen, going upstairs under the floorboards & across a bedroom to return again through the ceiling & down to the gas fire in the living room. Is this a safe viable option & could it have an effect on the efficiency of my new boiler?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, You could run it that way, up and down, but, it would look a mess. It may not affect the boiler running but if the fire was on when the boiler fired up you would see a big drop on the fire flame. Best if possible to run the gas pipe from as near to the gas meter as possible and if you had a bungalow say, run the pipe externally and enter from outside as near to the fire as possible. Referring to the manufacturers installation instructions for the fire unit as to permitted points of entry.

have you considered getting another company to fully service the fire, i.e. clean the jets and the all the associated pipe work. I personally would of taken the restrictor elbow to pieces and checked there was no debris in there from the drilling incident.

Hi also if you've got a new high efficient boiler it needs to have a dedicated feed if its a combi this is a gas regulation as the combi will burn at higher gas rate when in hot water mode. If the fire is on at same time this will have an adverse effect. Hope this helps
