3 Bed House is not yet on the gas mains and requires rewiring - is there a specific order I should do these works?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.39 PM

I am in the process of purchasing a 3 bed house in Brentwood and there is gas in the street (checked with neighbours and they have got gas) but it has never been connected to the property - will this be expensive? Also the 'consumer unit' is currently above the front door so as part of the rewiring we would probably want this moved under the stairs and are mindful of cost on this also?! As well as cost should we be having the above works done in any particular order?! is there any advantage to having one trade in to do both jobs or should we keep these seperate and manage ourselves? Thnak you Rob

You can have Gas connected to property, will cost about £1,500.00 and can only be completed by your Gas Supplier. Once you have a Gas Meter you then employ a Gas Safe Engineer to run your Gas in the property. Only your Electric supplier can move your Main Fuse Board and this starts at about £750.00 depending on how far you want to move it. So, you cannot use normal Tradesmen to complete these jobs. Answer to Rob.Hello Rob.Huge work but can be done without any stress if plans from start will be set up correctly.U asking if u should do this work?No one can tell u what u have to do inside your property but house should meet regulations and have to be safe for u.Before any re-wiring u should hire professional electricans to do all test as 90% of the houses no need full re-wiring and if u will have honest and good electricans u can save lots of money, time and damages inside property.(most of the time systems needs only updating)Situation with gas-u asking clear if u have to connect gas to property?Ofcourse no because now we have lots of new technology and u can have everything on electric in and outside house without paying high bills. Its more expensive on start but if u will have good architect and electrical company who will work together u can have house free from any bills.Ofcourse gas is more traditional and cheaper to install but only u can choice option as u paying the money. Please remember only-use professional people for all building works even if they r not the cheapest.Kind regards-Derck
