Leylandii waste disposal

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.16 PM

Hi there, We've just removed nine leylandiis that were once hedges, but had been left to grow into 15-20 ft (ish) trees by the previous owners. We've cut down and stacked up the branches, leaving us with a pile 5m across and 1m 50 'deep', and about 6ft high. One problem is that there is no rear access to our house. We were originally going to hire a small chipper for a week, and fill bags of chippings ready to take away, but I wonder if this is the best way to do it. Our hallway is small and narrow, at 73cms across, so the heavy duty chippers won't fit through the house, but the chipper below seems to be small enough: http://www.bestathire.co.uk/garden-tools/garden-clearance/garden-chipper-garden-shredder An alternative is to hire someone to do it for us, or hire a skip and put the branches straight into that. I don't like the idea of bringing branches through the house, as it is newly painted (white!) and is generally pristine! I'd be very grateful if anyone could suggest what might be the best thing to do. Thanks A & M

Good Morning A & M, I'd be happy to come and have a look for you and see what's involved. I'd probably be inclined to bring lots of dust sheets and line the hallways entrance/exit. Cut all of the brash up into small manageable bundles (then wrap these in sheets and remove). It's a time consuming process, but on a dry day would probably (I’d image) be your best option. Best wishes, Tom

Hi, These small chippers are really only any good for small garden waste and would probably struggle with what you have there. I also would never recommend using a chipper without protective equipment or even training as they can be very dangerous. Most Tree Surgery firms have their own chippers and would gladly quote you to chip or simply remove the branches. Feel free to contact us if we are local to you (Norfolk) and we will gladly speak with you about what is required. Emma
