Hot water tank - water too hot

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.16 PM

The water in my hot water tank is really hot and I have had the thermostat changed and this is not making any difference. I live in a hard water area so do I need a new element not sure if these can be changed it has a sealed foam outer insultating coating or I need a new tank? Can anyone advise me please? Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.

Hi Miss perfectionist Although you question is a bit vague. We will, try to assist. If your cylinder {tank} is heated up soley by an immersion heater this is called a direct cylinder Then it will be the THERMOSTAT with in the heater under the cap that could 1 be defective or secondly the thermostat could be set to high as the temperature range can be adjusted.DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ALTER UNLESS POWER IS OFF AT THE SWITCH OR PREFERABLY AT THE COMSUMER UNIT [ FUSE BOARD] The other reason for the high temperatre coud be that you have an indirect hot water cylinder.I e a boiler heating up the water as well ,Then the most likely problem could be the three port valve or two port valve staying open and not shutting off when the temperature reaches the temperature that set on the cylinder thermostat or unlikely the cylinder stat could be defective.Hope this assists Mr perfectionist dave
