Plastering & Rendering

I have cracks on my external render which are causing damp patches internally. Any options other than re-rendering which seems v.expensive or just filling cracks which is too short term?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

I have had tanking slurry suggested by a builder as an option but this is not typically used for external walls so I am cautious.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You cant really fill the cracks in the render, you will at least need to hack of any loose render, just go over it with a hammer and if it sounds hollow it needs to come of. If its that bad, then as plasterer said, best to rerender it, as it will be more costlier if you have damp coming through.

hello, how old is the render that is cracking? Having it re rendered is probably the cheapest way of solving the problem as damproofing can be expensive. Also make sure your guttering isn't leaking, if it is leaking more water could be running down the render, and this can cause and more cracks.

If your render is cracked and water is getting in then you will probably find most of it has popped from experience id take it of as quick as possible less likely of an accident if any comes away 👍 just filling in the cracks wont fix the render which is already damaged.
