plaster board on a fibre board

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

Hi , I have a fibre board ceiling now.the property was built in 1935 and I am not sure whether they have replaced that from 1935. I am confused whether I need to take off the fibre board and then plaster board or plaster board on top of fibre board? I am trying to avoid the mess if I take of the fibre board . Thanks

Hi, it would be beneficial to take down your fibreboard ceiling before reboarding. Fibreboard tends to bow after a length of time so you may not be able to get your new plasterboard to butt up tight to your joists. Another benefit of starting a fresh is that you will be able to see where your joists run so you know where you are fixing to. Hope this helps, The Traditional Plastering co.
