Trees in neighbours garden threaten foundations

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.59 PM

Hello there, There are some large birch trees in the neighbours garden. They are approximatley 2 foot away from the side of my brickwork. Assuming the neighbor agrees to an investigation, how would I go about finding out what potential damage to foundations might occur in the future. Furthermore, what could be done to prevent any damage without pulling down the trees. Thanks!

Hi there, 2 foot away from your property certainly is close as Birch can grow to 30 Meters depending on the species. To be more specific is it the main stem or the tips of the branches that are close? If the stem is that close. Then I would speak to a local Arborist to come and survey the trees. as the roots will indeed push on brickwork over time. Also there is the concern of overhanging branch work over your roof etc. If we are talking tips of branches. Then the 'root plate' might be close but will probably less likely to cause any damage. For true piece of mind ask your neighbour to have a tree survey done by a qualified Arborist. This will highlight and issues and suggest any works that might need done. If your local feel free to contact me and I can arrange a viewing. Or contact me directly if you have any other questions. Hope this helps. Nick Sitka Tree Services
