Bathroom Fitting

Where to source special requirement bathroom 'furniture?'

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

Hi, we're fitting a new bathroom and need to take into account an older disabled person who unfortunately due to their disability has put on a lot of weight. We're trying to source an affordable 'large' toilet. All we can find is ones that are 'higher', but height of the loo is not an issue, the size of the bowl and stability is. We've found 'big john toilet seats' which might help but my mother needs a larger bowl to enable reaching where you need to wipe without standing up. Can anyone recommend a good larger sized strong pan that doesn't need a mortgage taking out to afford. Sorry for the gross amount of extra detail, but trying to be clear on the problem.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, I can't recommend any such toilet seats as it's not my area, but I would say it might be worth a brief chat with local Occupational Therapist in the Social Services team. These professionals help clients with varying conditions. They may also help you with recommended siting of grab rails etc, all of which would be important in terms of Mum's safe mobility. I vaguely recall 'Geberit' and 'Clos-o-Mat' do toilets with a cleaning facility built in. Not sure if these would be suitable for Mum but, again, worth a look. Many Thanks, Jason.

Hi, there's a couple of larger toilet pans, if you google "Wide Boy Close Coupled Toilet" from Disabled Toilets U.K. Or Acorn Power which is not the prettiest toilet (in my opinion) and more expensive. If your looking at washer / dryer bidets, there is Closomat & Geberit complete toilet (standard size) systems that wash and dry, but are very expensive. Finally there is a washer dryer bidet (Bio Bidet) which is a lot cheaper and functional, but again that is for a standard size toilet pan. Hope this helps, good luck. Try contacting Grahams plumbing, J&B plumbing, Plumb centre, City plumbing, and speak to them and they will know of all the makers of oversized wc's. Your local OP will not know of the suppliers only the companies who fit the wet rooms and disability adaptions. hope this helps regards David.
