What layers are needed for correct bathroom floor installation?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.33 PM
We're having a new bathroom and floor installed upstairs and need some advice please. We have wooden joists and plan to install electric UFH with an uncoupling membrane cable system. The uncoupling membrane is also waterproof. The floor will be finished with ceramic tiles. How many layers and in what order should they be laid in order to minimise cracking, movement and moisture issues? Should we use chipboard, marine ply or any other material for the sub floor? Any insight would be really helpful. Thanks!

Hi,
I would highly recommend using marine ply under the electric underfloor heating.
After fixing the underfloor heating to the marine ply I would then use a self levelling compound to help with laying the tile which will stop any movement under the sub floor.
Hope this helps!
