Sign of Foundation problems? Mortar missing from bottom bricks and lose bricks

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.53 PM

All around the house on the level where the ground meet the outside wall mortar is missing from the bricks, on one corner a few have fallen out , the others are still fixed. Some white , maybe salty , stain are also on the lower level . Would this be a sign of something bad below , or is this just because the previouse owner did not look after the house. I have been told there was a water main flood a few years before , could this have been a result if nothing was done about it

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, if there was nothing done after the floods it is possible the flood water has washed out the old morta out and bricks will come loose, also on ground level it is a common problem because of the constant damp from the side of the brick, may need a new damp course and repointing and it should be fine
