Is the gas meter safe with children
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.30 PM
I have moved into a private property with 4 children, my 6 year old has asthma so does my 8 month old. We have a get meter in the bathroom which is located under the hand basin. There is a earth wire tapped along the skirten then up the door frame leading to the boiler. Is there safe as I believe the landlord has done it himself. Thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A gas meter by itself is not dangerous and neither is the earth wire, that said however, if it is damaged in any way e.g. the meter gets knocked about, then the pipes could fracture leading to a leak. If you are concerned about it then a cabinet could be made to protect the meter and pipework. The landlord should have had a gas safety inspection carried out and provided you with a copy of the certificate - if he has not then he is breaking the law and could be prosecuted. A gas safety inspection would be able to highlight any safety issues such as the one you are concerned about.
Hope this helps. Alex Roberts
