How do I get rid of artext effect on outside wall.
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.33 PM
I have artex effect plaster on outside wall. Can I plaster over to give smooth finish or does it have to be hacked off first.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi,
This doesn't necessarily need hacking completely off. Depends on how thick it is. If the walls are sound then you could get away with just scraping back the prominent areas and applying over.
Just be careful with the age of the house with regards to asbestos.

Hi Jane,
you can buy a plasterers scraper that is larger than a normal scraper, they are relatively cheap to buy.
By using that, it will scrape all of the sharp edges off, it will take a bit of hard work, but you cant just plaster over it without doing this first.
