Reclaimed Oak flooring on new screed?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.16 PM
Hi My girlfriend and I have purchased a new build home from Linden Homes. It is a coach house, meaning we are situated on the first floor. We are looking to have a reclaimed wooden floor installed when we move in. Can we place this floor onto the fresh concrete screed? As someone has told me this won't be possible due to the moisture in the screed. Is there anything I can do to treat the floor?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It is possible by applying a liquid damp proof membrane which essentially drives the moisture to the sides and will eventually dissipate. The correct adhesive must be used also to ensure inevitable movement is catered for. This is not the same one used for engineered boards or parquet.

I would normally carryout various moisture readings to determine how high the moisture levels are.
It's standard practice to use a liquid DPM on concrete, regardless of the age of the concrete.
The right adhesive would need to be used to allow for any movement, especially in a new build.
