Papering over previously silk emulsioned wall
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.16 PM
I would like to wallpaper the two end walls of dining and lounge to make the room look like one room. The walls previously painted with silk emulsion. Do I need to use diluted paste on the walls and allow to dry prior to wallpapering the two walls. Also I would like reassurance that starting at the ends of the wall if only doing one end wall? Appreciate your assistance

I agree with 2 previous answers - make sure the shiney surface is sanded down - it can be a messy boring job but will be worth the satisfaction of a nice looking wall.
And work out from the pattern of the paper before you start hanging as again it needs to look symmetrical

As above. Make sure you sand the walls down to get rid of the shine. Then size the walls. You can water down some paster-you can just buy a small bag of sizing paste from any DIY store.
As for hanging the paper never start in the corner no matter how many walls your doing. The corners will never be straight and your patten will be totally wrong. Always start in the middle with a plumb line.

Hi There.
You will firstly need to sand back the silk emulsion to let the sized paste (diluted paste) soak in properly which will allow you to apply the paper more easily when hanging.
I would measure the wall and plumb a straight line from the middle and the work away from that line to either end ensuring equal trimming and cutting at each corner.
Hope this helps.
