Damp patch on bottom of chimney breast

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.53 PM

I've just moved into a house about 3 month back and there has been a stead creeping damp patch on inside chimney breast in the living room it is not showing anywhere else in the room to the best of my knowledge. We had missing roof tiles replaced 2 month ago and the chimney checked. Any advice as to what it could be or diy methods of solving it?

If the roof has been fixed then it could just need time to dry out or there could be some sort of debris at bottom of chimney which is soaking through. you could put some damp seal on wall and see if it comes back.

Hi it's a job for the professionals, the damp could be rising, or from infill inside chimney, is there a vent, it may also be caused by old suit that is laden with salts such as nitrates, nitrites and chlorides from the burnt fossil fuels, these are hygroscopic which attract moisture from the air, any further information give me a ring cheers, Signature Design, Build and Restoration Ltd
