Asbestos roof removed, is it now safe for a gym?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi, I have a good size concrete shed with what looked like an asbestos roof. My wife and I decided to change the roof and use the shed as a gym. We hired a builder who removed the roof and replaced with a non aspetos one. The worry is that when removing the old roof they appeared to smash the roof off where it was joined to the purlins as the bolts had become rusted. Worried about any remaining dust I water hosed the inside of the shed, painted with an asbestos sealant and then painted over the walls with emulsion. Do you think this is enough to remove the threat of asbestos dust inhalation? As there will be a lot of heaving breathing in there I wanted to make double sure! Cheers

yes I understand your concern if the asbestos as it can cause health problems to the lung. but if the fibers are sealed and not disturbed they cannot get airborne. I have been on 6 asbestos courses and understand the process and how it can be contained. hope this answer helps you

In short, yes. Asbestos is harmless unless disturbed I.e sweeping up etc. if you are happy that the floor is cleaned thoroughly then I wouldn't worry.
