do I have to be self employed if Im employed?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.30 PM
hi, I'm new here and I have one very important question for me whether do I need to be self employed to take the job with mybuilder? And I ask because I work on permanent employment, and in my free time, I would like to earn extra money ... wants to do everything legally
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I don't really see what the issue would be as long as you can offer a decent service mate

No but you would need public liability insurance and you would need to declare any income to the inland revenue

Hi there and welcome to the trade!
There are a couple of things to be aware of when coming into the construction industry. Make sure you have Public Liability Insurance - just in case
At the end of the fiscal year you will have to fill in the 'Self Assessment Return' to HMRC so you will fill in what you earned from your 'normal employed job' and also any profit you take from your Construction business to see if you owe any extra tax from your construction earnings.
You can be 'employed' and 'self-employed (a sole-trader)' at the same time.
