New Shower Head is affecting my the stability of my shower temperature?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.58 PM

Hi There, I am living in a rented property, recently we took our old shower head and de-scaled it, unfortunately we forgot about it and when we removed it from the descaling liquid it has destroyed the seal around the head and thus leaked everywhere. I went and bought a new shower head and fitted it, but the temperature of the shower is now very unstable, the slightest tweak of the cold tap will bring the temperature down over about a minute, the only way to get heat again is to turn the cold tap off, and then..yeah, after a few seconds, only scalding hot water, no surprise i suppose. We have poor water pressure in the flat as we are on the top floor. If i knew the make/model of the shower head i had before then I would go and buy one today but unfortunately it was fitted before we moved in. Any Ideas guys? Matt

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

it is possible that the new shower head is too large and allows the water through quickly, however it is also a possibility that you have unbalanced pressures at the outlets and therefore any thing that de stabilises the balance you set causes it ti=o need re setting! the resolution is either move to a combi system , or an electric shower, or install a pump

I have had to deal with this problem several times as the area i live in suffers from lower pressure, i found the cheapest fix is to buy an ionic shower head which has very small holes for the water outlet which forces the pressure up, the are relatively inexpensive and can be found on the large online retailers if you search for high pressure shower head.
