Restoration & Refurbishment

Is it possible to achieve this and meet building control/structural requirements?

Hi there, my husband and I would like to knock down a wall between our dining room and our staircase. We had someone come round who said it would not be possible to knock the whole wall out because of support required for the staircase. However, I have found several photos of virtually identical houses that have done what we would like to do, with the same style of staircase etc. I have a photo which shows what we want to do (it is not our house) and can email this (don't think its possible to attach here) and would like someone to tell me if its possible to achieve this in a way that is structurally sound. Thanks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi You don't state where in the UK you are. I'm in Glasgow However if the wall is load bearing it can be removed once a structural beam has been installed after obtaining a building warrant This would require someone like myself and a structural engineer to prepare plans and specifications Hope this helps John
