Uneven Concrete Floor

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

Hi I have laminate flooring in my kitchen on top of a concrete floor. The room is square and dips into the middle - looks like the centre has sunk down over the years. So what are the options for building up the center of the room do the floor is the same level as it is around the edges? I think its probably flat around the edge as far out as the kitchen units so we may be able to not have to remove the units (except fridge and washing machine which do stick out further than the other units). I would guess total drop from outside to centre of room is around 1-2 cms Size of room is around 4m x 3m Thanks

Hi my name is Tom Mitchell from Tilescape. We come across problems like this all the time and the good news is it's easily solved. You need to buy some levelling compound ,simply mix up as per the instructions on the bag and tip out the required amount needed to bring the floor up level in the dip.Make sure you pva the area being levelled first as the compound will take better and can dry out too fast and crack without it.They are described as self levelling compounds which suggests you can just tip it out and leave it,this is true to a certain extent but you can help it with a float or trowel if necessary. One other thing don,t tip out too much at a time as if you do you will have a nightmare trying to stop it running over the other parts of the floor that don't need raising, you can always tip more out so go slow until the correct level is reached.Hope this helps, any questions please feel free to contact me.
