Roof maintenance now while we have scaffolding up

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.58 PM

We are having a dormer window installed on one side of the roof of a mid terraced slate roof house, and have scaffolding up to do the job. Having inspected the roof up close I can see it's a bit shabby with quite a few slipped slates, and others which are very crumbled with almost completely rusted nails. The roofer has quoted to remove all slates and batons, fit a breathable membrane, new batons, refit the slates (we have enough good ones from fitting the dormer to not need new ones) and replace a couple of ridge tiles for 600. Obviously it's an extra cost we weren't planning for, but as we already have scaffolding up we were wondering if it's wise to have the roof repaired on one side now rather than waiting for a problem (or hoping we don't have one!) Thanks!

It's more cost effective anyway and what I would advise.

If it needs doing I would advise going ahead while the scaffold is up and 600 seems pretty cheap for what your describing.
