Staircase paintwork or hire a professional?

Anonymous user 19 August 2015 - 9.34 AM

We are redecorating our home and have decided to take off the carpet from our staircase as we want a nice look to the hall way. Weve currently got a staircase which is pretty descent but it does have a lot of nail and staple holes. What we want to achieve is a look without carpet, having the riser painted white, and the treading in brown. I hope that I can add some images of our current state to what we are aiming to achieve to this question (you can view images in the job posting 'Staircase advice required'). We would like is some advice on what we can do, whether we'll need to replace or add better quality materials for our risers and treading to achieve our goal. Can anyone help?

if you have the patience to fill and rub down i would expect the stairs to be very attractive when finished, use a 2 part filler its harder on the foot than ordinary filler and can be rubbed down same day. an odd nail now and again ads abit of character as the stairs are not new.in my experience most people would not notice risers and treads the first thing to notice is the handrail and spindles this is where i would spend most of my time, hope ive helped
