Can a leaky chimney cause roof leaking visually?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

Hi, is it possible that a problem with my chimney - be it the flashing etc - could cause heavy rainfall to penetrate and travel down my roof beams - my chimney is on the crast of the ridge and two valleys and it's the valley beams that are affected. I cant see water at the top of the beams but 1/2 way down their length to their end - and a little bit on the lower smaller cross beams that feed onto them - just for the last 3-4 inches. There is quite wide flashing on the valleys but I do wonder if rain is leaking up the sides of them. But the builder who relaid my roof checked them and also put a load of filler up their sides but this has not stopped the problem - hence I'm looking at the chimney. Many thanks

I suspect this is a valley issue. Filler is not a product to solve roof issues. I think you can disregard the chimney as you would likely see water running directly down the brickwork if it were leaking. Regards, Sean (Roofmonkee)
