Kitchen Fitting

I have a getacore worktop which was fitted 3 years ago...

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.31 PM

and for the last year it has slowly cracked along the sink area (inset sink) the fitters are blaming the manufacturers the manufacturers are saying it's a fitting issue!! Meanwhile the crack is getting longer and wider (about 2 ft long now!!) and Mould is starting to creep down the back of the sink not good!! Been in constant contact with fitters (happen to be a family member so not good!) and manuf but getting nowhere fast - very very frustrating!! I know for a fact that another worktop fitted around the same time by the company also has the same problem but no one is doing anything about it and my kitchen looks crap (paid a lot for it!!) any help given will be most helpful. Are there any offical bodies I can contact etc???? Here's hoping.....

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi I'm not sure there are any official bodies...to be honest it sounds like a fitting problem, but with-out seeing it...you can only guess. The manufacturer will have rules and regs on how sinks should be supported in their worktops. If the sink is not fitted to their recommendations (it's the fitters fault). A lot of the time sinks have to be supported underneath with batterns or bracing inside the unit, to take the weight off the worktop (hardly ever get's done) Often get cracking around the sink because of this... likewise if the sink cut-out isn't sealed, water ingress can cause the worktop to crack and collapse (fitters fault again) I'm 99% sure it is a fitting problem, not manufacturing problem. Best thing to do would be look on the getacore website, for recommended fitting procedures/support for sinks...or ask them for them? You'll may find there will be a list of things that haven't been done. Hope this helps

Go and see trading standards. Even if its a family friend. Its either not fitted correctly or its a flaw in the material. Either way once you get trading standards in volved some ome will sort it.

I have fitted getacore a few times and have never experienced any problems with the product but having said this you do have to know what your doing with solid surface materials and as above without looking at the job would be hard to say what is the problem but I would say it is more likely an installation problem. I would contact getacore ask for the name of a local installer and get him to look at the job. It is possable to repair damage to solid surface worktops thats one of there advantages but again without looking I couldnt tell you if its possible in your case.

Try the Institute of Kitchen, Bathroom and Bedroom Installers. Or IKBBI for short. www.ikbbi.org.uk They are the only government sanctioned body representing this sector. Regards
