Individual floorboards sinking on first floor of Victorian terrace
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.58 PM
Hi We have lived in our victorian terrace for 4 years. Recently in our bedroom and hallway upstairs a few floor boards appear to be sinking. You can see the indent of the floorboards through the carpet. I have pulled back the carpet far enough to see one of the floorboards and there is no sign of woodworm but the floorboard is a different colour to others so has probably been replaced in past. My concern is that there is a problem with the joists that I couldn't see. Which tradesman would I contact to check this out and repair if problem? Based in Bristol Thanks

Judging by your description it sounds like this is happening in adjacent rooms/areas. If new boards are present no doubt there has probably been services changes (pipes electrics). If the floor joists have been altered aggressively to accommodate these changes the joists may have been weakened to the point they are giving away to load. Very difficult to assess with out seeing but it could range from simple carpentry solution to a symptom much more concerning.

you will need a carpenter,
he will remove the sunken floor boards to look at the joists and give you your answer is this near an exterior wall sometimes the ends of joists can rot out hope this helps.
