How to make dark grey mortar?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

How do I make a dark grey mortar? I want to grout the patio. I used a £5 bucket of mortar from screwfix but it has dried to a very light colour. I want it to be a very dark grey. I assume I need to make the mortar myself using 4:1 sand/cement, but I can't see any dark grey sand in the DIY shops. This seems strange as most people seem to say that a buff patio should be grouted with dark grey not a light colour as it looks much better.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You need to use a darker cement. Basic rugby cement in a brown bag is grey. Alternatively use grey geo-fix, it's the easiest thing to joint a patio with and is purpose made for that job.
