Need help in restoring plaster after damp

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.58 PM

Hi everyone, I have got a rental property and the tenant contacted me recently to tell me that there was a damp issue in the property. I was very shocked to see the extent of the problem and very annoyed that they hadn't told me earlier and let it get so bad. Here's a picture... http://bit.ly/1McmhVh I've had a roofing specialist come to the property who diagnosed a problem with the guttering (the room is a 1st floor bedroom). There were no eve trays between the roof edge and the guttering, also the wooden guttering was beginning to rot. As a result, moisture was dripping down the walls and soaking into the brickwork. He has replaced the guttering and added eve trays. This work was carried out 2 weeks ago. My question is, how do I now go about rectifying this damp plaster?! As you can see, it's a pretty large area. Thanks very much, Neil.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Neil, Thats great you got the main issue fixed coursing the damp problem. It isn't that bad or big of a job to rectify the wall. Would mean a plasterer to hack off damp patch to substrate. Then base coat then add top coat plaster to area. Let it dry then paint the wall, problem solved. Hope this was useful to you. cheers Sean
