Toughened glass and leads in Leaded widows

Toughened glass units should have the british standard kitemark in one corner of the sealed units. Any glazing which is less than 80 cm from the floor should always have toughened glass sealed units installed. Also doors, french doors,patio doors, bifold doors,and all glass sealed units in a conservatory should be toughened glass including glas roof and any window next to a door(flag window). The clue here is the broken glass unit. If the glass unit is broken and there is a crack in the unit it is not toughened glass. Toughened glass would break into hundreds of tiny pieces like the old windscreens of vehicles.(toughened glass is not used on front windscreens these days manufacturers use laminated glass. decorative lead should be on the inside of the outside pane of glass and the outside of the outside pane of glass. Same rules apply to a conservatory as a house. 800mm floor to cill & anything within 300mm of a door opening upto 1500mm from floor level. Leads are always done on the outside, some dgu manufacturers will ask if you want the inside doing also (inside of the exterior pane) You could have had encapsulated (triple glazed) if you have stained glass to the fanlights. But square/diamond/queen anne ect are leaded on the exterior of the exterior pane of glass. Lee
