Loft Conversion

Installation of flat roof former.

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

Hi. I am looking at a loft conversion and need to put in a flat roof former to allow enough head room this would be the whole width of the house 4.8 m. I have a timber frame house and need to know if I can add in he former from the apex of the roof essentially going straight out from the ridge line. Do I need to instal reinforced structure at the ridge? If so what would this be made of? Can a reinforced structure be dispensed with if supporting structure is built as part of an internal wall offering support to the pitched roof at the dwarf wall point and 500mm short of the apex. Thanks Richard.

Hi Richard, You do not say where in the uk you live. I am in Glasgow I have applied for permission to carry out similar alterations for people and I contact the Planning Department of each council for their views / policies on such works as it can vary Hope this helps Ian
