Sewer smell in all 3 bathroom and outside

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

We bought a new build house in 2011 and in the past 6 months we started getting a sewer smell in garden and now we have constant sewer smell in all 3 bathroom s (one down stairs, upstairs family and ensuit) and in front garden were the drain is. we have had barrets (developers) out but the smell wasn't there when they came ,all together they have been 4 times , on the 4th time the smell was there and they said the drain cover wasn't sealed, so they sealed it and the next day it came back and has stunk constantly since they come last (7 week ago) been back in touch they saying that were the end property and neibours putting oil and fat down drain, but why all bathrooms smelling, im thinking its a very serios problem and I thats y they keep thobbing us off . just to mention that because it a new build the water board doesn't have responsibility for them, they adopt them when they been laid for 10 years. I basically want to know what it could be so I can get them to check it, If it's a problem due to our own missuse and we have to sort it then could someone give me an idea of what sort of charges I can expect. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Hallo Paul To have smell all over the house, it seams that the stack pipe is damaged at the lower level, most probably where it exit the house to join the man hole. I would suggest a pressure test of the main stack, but more reliable,(and expensive ) a check of the stack with a rod camera. Good luck Tiziano

I personaly would pressure test the drains first which should have been done when they completed the drain I would water test the drain from the first manhole chamber to the house as if the smell is in the garden I would presume the problem begins their .One should also be aware if smells are leaving the drain system then water could be also which eventually caused structural issues .One could also check with the L A to see whether they observed the pressure testing of drains within the development Good luck DAVE
