Loft Conversion

Cost of basic loft conversion

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

I'm looking into converting the loft space of our house. It's detached with a fairly steep pitch roof, and the space is about 7m long by 3m wide (up to where the space decreases to about 1.5m high). Before embarking on a disk conversion, I'd just like to get the space prepped, with new joists and a basic floor, with the supporting timbers removed to open it up so we can use it for storage prior to working on it later as a living space. Anyone able to give me a rough idea of the costs for this kind of thing? Cheers, Paul

assuming it is a trussed roof you will need to install some steel for support of the roof before the trusses can be removed. More than likely 5 lengths. 2 for your load bearing floor. 2 at mid level to support your roof structure and 1 under your ridge beam. Hard to say exactly without seeing the job but my guess would be around 4 to 5 k if its all done to current regulations and under supervision of building control which it will need to be if it is to class as a habitable room. Hope this helps. Regards, Gareth
