Loud popping and banging sounds from ceiling

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.15 PM

Over the past year I keep hearing loud popping and banging sounds from my roof and ceiling. I bought a bungalow with loft conversion last year and had both a window replaced and a disused kitchen chimney stack removed. The builder knocked down one of four support pillars and didn't add a ridge tree to support the tiles. Brought in another company who replaced the missing and a leaning pillar and added the missing ridge tree. But I'm still hearing the sounds. Usually hear a loud one when it's warm but smaller pops seem to be at random times. And idea what I'm missing or needs doing? Thanks for response; The loft conversion was done 10 years ago and has velux windows. No flat roof or fibre glass. The noises are usually in the morning, usually around 10:30-11:30 and in the evenings but can't confirm the times. Some cracks have appeared in the plasterboard walls at the joins. Is this a symptom of a bigger problem?

hi, the banging or popping sounds are most likely to be movement in your roof, are they most frequent in the morning with the sun out? and sudden change in temperatures ? and has your loft conversion got a fibreglass flat roof? a number of reasons can cause this, spars not fixed securely enough, timber deck not made of suitable wood or poor quality fixings, paslode nails instead of screws used for the flat roof deck is a common one. hi, with the noises being morning and evening when the temp changes the most its definitely movement, its hard to say if it will cause you problems, it could be like a floor board creaking on a nail and when moved going back to its original position or something could of broken and could be getting progressively worse, sorry I couldn't help more
