Damp Proofing

High damp readings - survey report

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.15 PM

I'm in the process of buying a house (mid terraced, built 1890s) and the home buyers report has indicated high damp readings on the front of the building. I'm already having the roof re-covered and the chimney re-pointed and the house is going to have external wall insulation completed in the next month. Should I get someone in to investigate the damp/recommend work or will the roof/insulation sort it? I don't want any nasty surprises but I don't want to get people in if it isn't needed either.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, A home buyers survey is a general inspection of a property to make sure there is no exisitng problems and if there is to flag them to the potential buyer. In my experience a surveyor will make any damp issues found to be a lot worse than they actually are. In terms of your issue it is recommended that you have it checked by an expert/contractor so that a full diagnosis can be concluded into what form of damp it is and what is causing it and the works that are required (IF ANY).
