How to get rid of artex

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.15 PM

We have recently moved into a new properly the downstairs toilet and outhouse walls are covered in thick artex. We have tried just scraping it off but doing a small patch about 50cm x 30cm took almost 3 hours. We really want to get rid of it all. What's the best way to do this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi A word of caution about removing Artex, the older stuff contains asbestos so its better to leave it alone and put a bonding coat of plaster over it before skimming.

Hi the only way to get rid of artex is to plaster over it! Give it a good scrapping first to remove any big lumps

Hi Lizy, you can always overboard it with plasterboard (depending how much room you have to play with) If you are limited with space you could always use a base coat of hardwall and then a multi-finish plaster to finish. (note: scrape off as much as you can plus you will benefit from using a stabilising primer) I would recommend getting a plasterer in.
