Roof change to timber and tile
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.15 PM
I am looking for advice and idea of cost of work to be done, the plastic roof was damaged by a recent ice storm. I am wanting to change the roof to a pitched roof with velux windows,I am aware it needs a new design and planning is required and new windows and door is required.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I have just finished one of these roofs, the old flat roof felt had split in various places of the roof and I recommend to the client to replace it with a tiled pitched roof with two Velux's.We erected scaffold and then took the felt of but left the orginal in ceiling. Then we formed the roof with two velux's.Then I built up the brick & block work.Tiled the roof. Then we took down the old ceiling from inside, first fix the electrics, insulated the vaulted ceiling with 100mm celotex, plaster boarded the ceiling, plastered the new build areas and then installed the down lighters. Finally we dismantled the scaffold and took away all the building material waste. The roof I done was roughly 3mx5m

You can turn a flat roof into a pitched one, but must be aware of all the factors,
Firstly you need to talk to planning, then building control, are you looking for s roof with a gable end or hips.
I assume this is going on either a solid or cavity wall , not just a 100mm skin
once roof pitched you can tile .
this just a basic breakdown, and extras can be discussed on site,
